Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has come out with his ideal starting XI Manchester United for the 2021-22 season.
In what is a very strong lineup, Silvestre opted to leave out Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Fred out of his ideal Manchester United starting XI if everyone was fit. However, there is a place for the three summer signings — Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.
The former France international opted for Ronaldo ahead of Cavani upfront, and he’d rather have Rashford than Mason Greenwood. There was no space for Fred in the team as he opted to have one defensive midfielder in Scott McTominay, with Paul Pogba having to play a supporting role.
In goal, Silvestre went for the more experienced David De Gea and believes that the Spaniard can still come up with the goods and is at a good age for a goalkeeper.
Explaining his goalkeeper choice, he said: “He’s (De Gea) been there many years already, I still think he’s on top form, mentally he’s in a good space and is a top goalkeeper. Goalkeepers tend to age well so we can count on him to be there for a good few years yet.”
What do you think of Silvestre’s lineup?
