Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally admitted he made a mistake not taking off David De Gea and bring on Dean Henderson for the penalty shootout in the Europa League defeat to Villarreal.
Speaking about the Europa League final penalty shootout loss to Villarreal last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Dagbladet: “We had a lot of scenarios on our minds. We put [Alex] Telles and [Juan] Mata on the pitch, and they scored their penalties
“We substituted off two players who were not physically prepared to take a penalty. That [subbing Henderson on against Villarreal] could have been a stroke of genius.
“You just have to learn from this, and consider that you made the decisions you did for all the right reasons, and unfortunately it didn’t go the way you had planned.”
