Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium, with a second half strike from Mason Greenwood levelling the scores after United had gone down to a Fred own goal in the first half.
It was a more cagey affair compared to Manchester United’s flamboyant victory over Leeds United.
Anthony Martial played as a striker in this game, as the Frenchman was given his first start of the season. However, Martial didn’t seem to have the best of game.
The Frenchman saw a header cleared off the line early on but didn’t offer any attacking threat for the rest of the match.
Martial was eventually being taken off before the hour mark and was replaced by summer signing Jadon Sancho.
Former Chelsea women’s team star Karen Carney was among the pundits on the day and she slammed the performance of Martial, claiming that he was lost all game and didn’t offer anything.
“I have not seen Anthony Martial,” Carney told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I don’t think he knows what he is doing or offering, he looks lost.”
