Former Manchester United captain Ashley Young has revealed the massive mistake made by the club.

Manchester United paid £75m to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton back in 2017. However, the Belgian didn’t last long at Old Trafford and was sold off after just two seasons.

Lukaku scored 42 goals in 96 games for the club, but spent only two years at Old Trafford before being sold off, and Ashley Young believes it was a mistake.

Young would go on to play with Lukaku at Inter Milan where Lukaku excelled, and Young thinks United made a big mistake in selling him, as he has now sealed a £97.5m to Chelsea.

“I’m so happy for him,” Young told The Guardian.

“It was the wrong decision for United to let him go. To join him at Inter and see how well he did there was fantastic.

“I don’t know whether he thinks he has a point to prove [in the Premier League] but I don’t see it like that: his record speaks for itself. He scored a lot of goals at United and everywhere else.

“I hope he does really well at Chelsea – just as long as he doesn’t turn up against Villa!”
