Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has claimed that Manchester United forward is under huge pressure to deliver this season.
Martial’s form last season has been called into question, and his fitness as well. The signing of Jadon Sancho has made everyone wonder what would be of the Frenchman.
Irwin has backed Martial to impress this season, but admitted that he’d have to overcome the pressure and bring out the talent we know he has.
“There is a bit of pressure on him, he missed the last couple of months of last season and obviously missed out on the Euros with France,” Irwin told Metro.co.uk.
“He’s only played one game of preseason [against Everton] which he didn’t finish so he might not be at his sharpest yet either.
“But there is competition up there now, Sancho has signed, Mason is only going to get stronger and stronger so it is a big year for all of them and it is a big year for Martial too.
“We know how talented he is, we know the ability he has got. It is a big year for him. We have to be there or there abouts and start fast, we have got to make sure come October or November we are there.
“History will tell you the days of manoeuvring into position in January or February then going on a run probably don’t happen anymore. You have got to be there or thereabouts come October or November. It is vital everyone gets off to a good start.”
