Manchester United start the new season with a home game against Leeds United, and United have a major boost with Raphael Varane ahead of the tie.
Manchester United and Real Madrid have since agreed a transfer fee for Varane, but the deal has experienced a delay due to problems with his visa. Also, since arriving in Manchester, the incoming centre-back has had to quarantine himself due to the Covid-19 regulations.
Varane was given the green light to travel to the UK from Spain last week and has almost completed his quarantine in Manchester, as per Government guidelines.
According to journalist Jonathan Shrager, Manchester United now harbour hopes that everything about Varane would be concluded before the game against Leeds.
He tweeted: “There is confidence that Varane’s medical, signing and announcement can be officially completed on Wednesday, which would then allow him to train with the team on Thursday/Friday, opening up the possibility that he could feature in #MUFC’s matchday squad in season opener vs Leeds.”
Varane is now set for his medical and complete his move to United on Wednesday.
Manchester United have until midday on Friday to register Varane for him to be eligible to make his debut against Leeds United.
