Manchester United made a bold move to snatch Raphael Varane from the hands of Real Madrid this summer, as the Frenchman has almost completed a move to Old Trafford.
There are not many better centre-backs in the game than Varane, who has won the World Cup, four Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles.
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has hailed the signing of the 28-year-old defender and believes he’d be a perfect partner for Harry Maguire. However, Souness thinks the major question mark would be his ability to seamlessly adapt to the nature of the Premier League.
He told The Times: “United will be better with Varane beside Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence.
“He is an experienced player, used to pressure after playing at Real for ten years, and he is lightning quick, which will help them play higher up the pitch and press more aggressively, as all the top teams do now.
“When you buy players, you look to what could go wrong in the deal. Varane is a proven performer at the highest level.
“The only question mark is he is coming to a slightly different style of football after Spain, but that is not so much the case any longer, partly because teams are all playing a similar high-pressing style and partly due to the refereeing being so similar across Europe. He could be a fabulous partner for Maguire.”
