France and Arsenal legend Robert Pires has hailed Manchester United’s signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, and the former Gunners star has backed his countryman to excel in the Premier League.
However, Pires also admitted that Maguire should be ready to face the physical nature of the Premier League and insisted that the new signing will suffer in some games.
Pires told TMW: “Yes, Raphael will certainly adapt to English football. Surely there will be matches in which he will suffer physical clashes, but he is now a player of great experience.
“I see him well paired with Maguire, they will form an excellent duo.”
Pires also admitted his surprise that Real Madrid let go of Varane after losing Sergio Ramos as well.
He said: “On my part there was a bit of surprise. In my opinion, president Perez wants to renew his team, but replacing Ramos and Varane will not be easy. For sure, the signing of David Alaba is a good choice.”
