Manchester United confirmed last week that the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphael Varane, as the Frenchman is now set to feature for United next season.
The deal is thought to be worth an initial £34m, with add-ons taking it up to around £42m.
Real Madrid have now sent a farewell message to Varane who has been with them since he was a teenager.
The France international departs the Los Blancos after a decade, and Real Madrid said in a statement: “We want to show all our affection to Raphael Varane and his family and wish him good luck in this new stage of his professional career.
“Our club thanks you for your professionalism and exemplary behaviour during the 10 seasons in which you defended our shirt.”
Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has also sent a message to Varane as he wished his former teammate well in his new club.
Ramos wrote on Instagram: “Dear Rapha, I can only thank you for these years of friendship, companionship and triumphs, and wish you luck in a new stage that will surely be exciting.
“If we face each other, always with the team of your country, right? Take care.”
