£375k a week player to cause problems for Manchester United next season

It seems Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has played out his best game so far in his career.

For a goalkeeper, the 30-year-old should be at a good stage in his career as he is be expected to be at a high level up till 36 years of age.

However, for De Gea, the past two years have been remarkably low for his standard.

The Spain international had been Manchester United’s best player for many years and we’ve been accustomed to him making world-class saves on a weekly basis. But his form has dipped for a long time, and high profile mistakes have also dropped his reputation both for club and for country.

Reports now claim that the Manchester United hierarchy regret the mouthwatering contract they handed out to David De Gea in 2019.

De Gea signed an incredible contract in September 2019, worth £375,000-a-week until 2023, which made him the best paid player in the Premier League.

However, De Gea has struggled to perform since that deal and seems to have even lost his place to Dean Henderson.

The Athletic report that ever since De Gea signed that contract two years ago, there have been those in the United hierarchy that have regretted the decision to offer him the deal.

De Gea’s mistake has also served as a lesson to the United board, as the report claims that they are wary of making the same mistake with Paul Pogba. You’d recall that De Gea was keen on a move to Real Madrid who were ready to pay big money to get him, but United had to keep him by giving him massive wages.

United do not want to make a similar mistake, as it seams like dejavu, with PSG now pushing to sign Pogba.
