Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is never one to shy away from controversy, and the Argentine was recently spotted punching a security guard and grabbing a fire extinguisher after a massive brawl erupted during a Copa Libertadores game.
Atletico Mineiro defeated Boca Juniors in the quarterfinal of the Copa Libertadores, and the Argentine side were furious with some controversial referee decisions that it resulted in a huge fight after the final whistle and Rojo was a part of it as well.
Only Rojo netted his spot-kick as Boca lost the shootout 3-1 in Belo Horizonte, and Boca players and coaching staff were livid at the referee’s decisions and felt they had two goals wrongly ruled out by VAR over the two legs as tensions spilled over after the full-time whistle.
Rojo led the charge as the Boca players were keen on beating up the match officials. However, the Miniero players seemed to have hid them in their dressing room.
Eventually, Brazilian police got involved and even used tear gas to try and calm down the situation, with seven players – including Rojo – as well as Boca’s goalkeeping coach charged by police.
Ander Herrera couldn’t help but laugh over the incident involving his former Manchester United teammate.
The PSG star shared a photo of himself with Rojo during their time at Old Trafford and he added the fire extinguisher emoji on the Argentine’s hand as he made light of the situation.
