Despite Raphael Varane having just one year left in his contract, Real Madrid are holding out for a transfer fee of about £60m.
Manchester United have reportedly offered £40m for the 28 year old, who has played 40 times for Zinedine Zidane’s side this season, but Real Madrid are set to reject offer.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has personally asked the club to bring in the French international defender, who has been capped 73 times by France and is expected to play a key role in Les Bleus’ European Championships campaign.
Varane joined Real Madrid from Lens for a £8.5million fee in the summer of 2011.
Since joining Real a decade ago, Varane has won three LaLiga titles, four Champions League trophies and four FIFA Club World Cups with the Spanish giants, who he has played 359 times for since his Los Blancos debut.
