Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to appoint his former teammate Edwin van der Sar as executive vice chairman.
Ed Woodward would step down as executive vice chairman of Manchester United at the end of the season.
Van der Sar is currently working as CEO at Ajax but has admitted that he would be interested in a return to Old Trafford, saying the Dutch giants and Manchester United are the only sides he would work for.
While discussing a replacement for Ed Woodward, Ferdinand said: “Another Ed would be good, Edwin van der Sar would be good, that would be one in the right direction.
“I speak to Ed a lot, good guy.”
