Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has admitted he feels sad for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.
The Dutch midfielder arrived at the club in a £40million deal from Ajax last summer but has started just two Premier League matches.
Van de Beek has not started a single Europa League game and was an unused substitute in Thursday’s 6-2 semi-final win over Roma.
Asked about his countryman’s predicament at United, Van der Sar told ESPN: “Of course I feel sad for Donny.
“He walked the perfect path before joining United. He joined the [Ajax] first team from the academy, became a starter, won trophies, performed in Europe.
“But the midfield of Manchester United is too stacked, they’ve not had any injuries. It’s hard for him.”
