Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has called for Manchester United and the rest of the ‘big six’ to be banned from the Premier League immediately following the creation of the European Super League.

The Premier League’s ‘big six’ – Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur – have all agreed to become founding members of the European Super League alongside Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter.

“The Super League have chucked a grenade at the Premier League and to everyone else. Well, chuck one back. Ban them. Ban them immediately if you can,” Shearer told BBC.

“I am sure they will look at every possible legal angle and what pressure they are under in doing that but if you can, do it. Absolutely.”
