The last time Manchester United had a player who won the Ballon d’Or was Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2008.
Of late, Manchester United players haven’t come close to being nominated for the award, but former AC Milan and Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli, believes that Manchester United signing Amad Diallo has what it takes to win the Ballon d’Or.
The 18-year-old sealed a deal to Manchester United last summer, but only joined in January and has made four appearances so far.
Diallo scored in the Europa League clash against AC Milan to help United seal a place in the quarter-final, and has been impressive in the minutes he had garnered so far.
Galli, who helped organise a trial for Diallo at Atalanta as he made the leap from amateur level, has now backed the youngster to win the Ballon d’Or in five years time.
“Amad is unique,” Galli told Goal.
“But he must make himself stronger.
“At the same time, he must make sure he does not lose his speed, which is a quality that distinguishes him from others.
“In short, I think he has all the qualities to be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the next five years.”
