Mason Greenwood has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for the Under-21 European Championship finals.

Greenwood was initially included in Aidy Boothroyd’s final 23-man list for the tournament, which is due to kick off in Slovenia on Wednesday.

England coach Aidy Boothroyd has called Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell into his 23-man squad as a replacement.

“Todd Cantwell has been called into our England men’s under-21 squad for the UEFA U21 EURO Finals,” the statement on the FA’s official website reads.

“The Norwich City player joins up to replace the injured Mason Greenwood in Aidy Boothroyd’s group.

“Cantwell, who has three MU21 caps to his name from this qualifying campaign, has joined the 23-man squad travelling to Slovenia on Tuesday afternoon.”

The first group assignment is against Switzerland on Thursday before facing Portugal on 28 March and Croatia three days later.

The knock-out stages will be held in Hungary and Slovenia in May and June.

Greenwood is now a doubt for Manchester United’s Premier League game against Brighton on April 4th.
