Arsenal legend Ian Wright has bemoaned the situation Donny van de Beek finds himself at.

The 23-year-old features more in cup competitions, and is mostly left on the bench in the Premier League games.

With just two starts in the Premier League, rumours are linking Van de Beek with an exit from the club, and Arsenal legend Ian Wright is unhappy with the situation, and wonders why the club spent £40m to sign him in the first place.

“It’s starting to be sad, unfortunately for him, he must be pulling his hair out,” Wright said on Ringer FC’s Wrighty’s House podcast.

“He’s come through a youth system and academy of possession football. We saw him [at Ajax] in the Champions League [semi-final last season] against Tottenham, magnificent player.

“You look at him now with Man Utd, who do not play possession football, why did they buy the guy?

“What is he supposed to do? What is he thinking now? I really, really feel for him.”
