According to The Telegraph via Daily Mail, Manchester United believe Sporting Lisbon winger Pedro Goncalves can be a cheaper alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho in the club’s search for a right-sided attacking player.
Manchester United failed to sign Sancho last summer due to Borussia Dortmund’s asking price of £108millon and believe they have now found the perfect alternative to Sancho.
Goncalves caught Manchester United’s interest after scoring 15 goals in 21 games in the Primeira Liga this season.
Manchester United are also keen on signing the 22 year old Sporting Lisbon winger due to his positional flexibility – he can play in central midfield and on either wing.
Goncalves reportedly has a release clause of £51.7million and it is believed he will have the same impact as Bruno Fernandes, who left Sporting Lisbon for Manchester United in January last year.
Manchester United have also signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from Sporting Lisbon, and it is understood the good relationship the two sides enjoy may help transfer negotiations for Goncalves.
