According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are set to battle rivals Manchester City for the signing of Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

Torres, 24, has enjoyed another successful season in La Liga and he is expected to leave Villarreal this summer.

While Manchester United and Manchester City have shown interest in signing Torres, En claim Manchester United is the most likely of the two to make a move at the end of the season.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly sees Torres as an ideal partner for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire in defence due to his natural ability as a left-footer.

Manchester United are also interested in Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane but the club sees Torres as a viable alternative.

City’s interest in Torres is believed to be more admiration, with Pep Guardiola in no desperate need for a new centre-back this time around.
