Manchester United defied the odds from bookmakers to beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, and consequently end their winning streak of 21 games.
Everyone expected City to carry the day, but goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw sealed a perfect 2-0 victory for United.
For the first goal, Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot, after Gabriel Jesus needlessly fouled Anthony Martial in the area, inside the first two minutes of the game.
Luke Shaw scored the second goal to seal the victory, five minutes into the second half, and Bruno Fernandes believes that the early goal gave United the boost to go on and win the game.
“Scoring in the first minute was perfect, we had more space to counter. We remained focused until the end of the game,” Bruno Fernandes told Sky Sports.
“When we defend well we know we’ll have chances to score. It’s always difficult to play against Manchester City.
“They are difficult on the ball and tough to play against. Today we did almost everything perfect. It’s not about winning against City, it’s about winning every game.”
