Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal for Manchester United, as United defeated Manchester City 2-0 away from home at the Etihad Stadium.
After beating Ederson from the spot, just two minutes into the game, Bruno Fernandes wheeled away in celebration sucking his thumb, before placing his hands over his ears.
The Portuguese international has been criticised for not turning up in the big games against the traditional Big Six, and many thought his celebration was targeted at his critics.
However, speaking after the game, Bruno Fernandes admitted that the celebration was for his kids.
Fernandes told Sky Sports: “It’s for my kids. Most people know my kids are the best of my life.
“Every time I score it is for both of them and of course also for my wife for supporting me in this difficult period.
“I know everyone thinks it’s a bit more easy to play training play but sometimes it’s tough and for the support they give me in this difficult period is for them.”
