Nemanja Matic has urged his Manchester United teammates to do better, after seeing them play a goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

United showed little urgency in the encounter, despite knowing what was at stake, with Matic’s long range effort in the first half the only real danger from United throughout the game.

The result leaves United trailing Manchester City by 14 points, with a crunch derby match slated for this weekend at the Etihad. And Matic insists we should be doing better in games like that.

Speaking after the drab draw at Selhurst Park, the Serbian said, “It’s hard to explain. But I think that we have to do much better in these sorts of games, especially to create more opportunities, to risk more in their half, around their box.

“Crystal Palace were very solid at the back. Their midfield dropped in a bit so it was very difficult to breakthrough.

“We have to give credit to them, but we know what we have to do. We need to do better in attack. We know these are games we have to win.”
