Manchester United drew goalless at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, our fourth draw in our last five Premier League games.
It was also our third consecutive goalless draw in all competitions after goalless draws against Real Sociedad in the Europa League and Chelsea in the Premier League.
United went into the game, needing a win to keep up pace with City but couldn’t find the back of the net after managing just one shot on target against Crystal Palace.
Dean Henderson, in goal for David de Gea, gathered a teasing free-kick from Andros Townsend early in the game before Christian Benteke skied a volley.
Manchester United responded as Nemanja Matic forced a save from Vicente Guaita. From the corner kick, Harry Maguire headed down into a crowd and Cavani stabbed at the bouncing ball with a boot and flicked it over. Then came the clearest chance of the first half. It fell to Marcus Rashford, who pulled his shot an inch or two wide when he ought to have hit the target from 10 yards.
Crystal Palace almost won it late when Van Aanholt went through on goal in the 90th minute but Henderson was alert to the danger and made the save at his near post.
United remain second on the table, despite the result.
