Manchester United receive timely boost as key Chelsea player to miss Stamford Bridge clash

Manchester United have received a timely boost as Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash at Stamford Bridge.

Blues Boss Thomas Tuchel revealed in his pre-match press conference that the Brazilian is yet to fully recover from injury and will miss Chelsea’s clash against the Red Devils on Sunday, but hopes to have the defender back in full training next week.

The 36-year-old has been injured since the 1-0 win over London rivals Tottenham earlier this month with a thigh issue and hasn’t featured for the Blues since then.

Although Tuchel will be without Silva this weekend, he also revealed that the Brazil international is making ‘big progress’ in his recovery.

“No more injury concerns [in the rest of the squad] and no, Thiago cannot play on Sunday,” said Tuchel on Friday.

“He did an individual session today but a session on the pitch and felt it was a big progress, a big step ahead for him

“So I hope he will join the group next week.”
