Former Arsenal player, Paul Merson has said that Manchester United could find themselves struggling to get into the top four this season with the difficult run of fixtures we have coming up.
United are currently second on the league table, but with games coming up against Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Manchester City and West Ham in the Premier League, Merson believes it’s easy for United to slip down the log if the team gets a poor result in those fixtures.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit drew attention to the crazy nature of the season, adding however, that if United do win on Sunday, then, it would be hard for Thomas Tuchel’s side to catch up.
He said, “It’s all so tight with plenty of points to play for in the coming weeks. All it takes is a really poor dip in form and you can quickly find yourself down in sixth with the games coming so thick and fast.
“Manchester United have three consecutive away games against Chelsea Crystal Palace and Manchester City and a bad run, coupled with some good results for the teams around them and things can change.
“They can change quickly in this league at the moment. That being said, if Man United beat Chelsea you’d have to think Thomas Tuchel’s side won’t catch them. United have the platform and they should secure a top-four finish.”
