Axel Tuanzebe has opened up on his experience as a holding midfielder on Thursday.
The growing centre back was deployed in midfield by Olé Gunnar Solskjaer against Real Sociedad, as United aimed to finish up their round of 32 tie against the Spanish side.
And Tuanzebe was impressive at the unusual role, in the absence of the like of Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay, and when asked how he felt about the position, he said he is always open to following the boss’s instructions.
In his own words to the media, “Being played in midfield is just something the gaffer did. I am a versatile player, my natural place is central defence but I did it for the team.
“It is a while since I played in midfield but most important thing is that we are through. The season has been up and down for me and we need to get more minutes and momentum.
“This is Manchester United, all players who play for us are talented and the manager always has options. The personalities that Man United bring through are determined players and that shows when we get the chance to play.
“It takes a while to get momentum going, have faith in the manager and we are starting to build that. It is not something done in a year or two, it is a long project and having faith in the coaching staff. The results are coming through.”
McTominay, Paul Pogba and Van de Beek are still doubtful for the Chelsea game this weekend, and in their absence Solskjaer could decide to give Tuanzebe another try in midfield, seeing as he did well against Sociedad.
