Ex Liverpool star, Dirk Kuyt, has revealed that Donny van de Beek is unfortunate to have completed his move to Manchester United at a time when a player like Bruno Fernandes is playing at the club.
The Dutch football legend made this known during a recent interview, and according to him, part of the reasons van de Beek has struggled is because Fernandes, who plays a similar position has been so good, although he backed his countryman to have his time eventually.
In an interview with Sky Sports he said, “The step from the Eredivise to the Premier League is an even bigger step then when I was going to the Premier League from the Eredivisie.
“But I think Donny van de Beek has been very unfortunate because there are no better players than Bruno Fernandes at the moment in the world. And he’s playing in his position, so that makes it very tough for him.
“I think Donny has shown in the Champions League last year how good of a player he is, so his time will come. But you have to keep being patient and like I said, to make the step from the Eredivise to the Premier League is a huge one.”
Van de Beek’s struggles at Old Trafford have continued, after his £40 million move from Ajax last season.
An injury to Paul Pogba had led some of us to believe things would look up for him, but the midfielder has started just 11 games under Olé Gunnar Solskjaer this season, as the Norwegian has instead, opted to play Fred and Scott McTominay alongside Fernandes.
