Marcus Rashford close in on Sir Bobby Charlton record after goal against Real Sociedad

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford scored as the Red Devils beat Spanish side Real Sociedad 4-0 on Thursday.

Rashford’s goal against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday was his 7th goal in European competitions for Manchester United this season.

Excluding those scored in qualifiers, this is the most goals scored by an Englishman in European competitions in a single season for United since Sir Bobby Charlton scored 8 in the 1964-65 season.

Rashford will back himself to beat the record with Manchester United expected to progress to the next round after the 4-0 victory in the first leg.

Rashford’s goal against Real Sociedad was his 17th goal of the season for Manchester United’s in all competitions.
