Manchester United are not to be blamed for Donny van de Beek’s inability to immediately adapt at new club, according to Dutch football legend, Ruud Gullit.
Van de Beek has started just 11 Man United games this season, following his close to £40 million transfer from Ajax, often coming from the bench to play.
This has led to talk of unfairness towards him from Olé Gunnar Solskjaer, but Gullit believes it’s not United’s fault since the problem isn’t peculiar to Van de Beek alone.
Speaking recently to De Telegraaf, Gullit said even other ex- Ajax stars are struggling for their new clubs, including Hakim Ziyech for Chelsea, and it would take some time for them to come good.
In his own words, “They are great players, but even they are struggling.
“Whether it is Donny van de Beek at Manchester United, Hakim Ziyech [playing for Chelsea] and even Frenkie de Jong [playing for Barcelona].
“De Jong is sometimes still a bit changeable. But he is the furthest one of all those players in adapting to his new club and new environment.”
