According to The Sun, Manchester United have identified Real Madrid star Federico Valverde as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba if he eventually leaves the club in the summer.
Reports claims the Red Devils are keeping close tabs on the Uruguay midfielder and have even had the player watched by the club scouts on several occasions.
The Sun claim United have already started drawing up their transfer plans for the summer with Valverde seen as a possible transfer target with his versatility a huge plus.
The club is taking no chances especially with Pogba keen to play for Real Madrid and also being linked with a return to old club Juventus.
A stumbling block to signing Valverde will be his staggering £148m buyout clause with the player having four years remaining on his £120,000-a-week contract at the Bernabeu.
It is likely the club will not be willing to pay anywhere near the £148m transfer fee, but would be able to give him a boost to his weekly pay packet.
