Gary Neville has blamed Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof for Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against West Brom on Sunday.
Both players made key individuals errors, as we slipped up in the title race, and according to Neville, their performance at the back could have been better.
The former United defender says they didn’t heed Olé Gunnar Solskjaer instructions for our defenders to push forward toward the opposition, and that cost us the missed two points.
He said, “I watched Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talk about his defenders pushing up the pitch in his pre-match interview.
“Well that was exactly the opposite. West Brom were always going to put pressure on the Manchester United defence and put the ball into the box as early as possible.
“They don’t shift, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire. I said it two or three weeks ago, if you don’t shift the two or three yards when the ball goes back then you’re going to end up on top of your goalkeeper.”
United now trail Manchester City by 7 points, with the Citizens retaining a game in hand.
