Manchester City are still top of the Premier League table, with 47 points, after 21 matches. And United are in second place, with 44 points, after playing a game more.
Both sides go into this weekend’s round of matches, hoping to win, and perhaps either go ahead or level up to the other.
But having played a game more than City, United cannot afford to lose today’s game against Everton, because that would only widen the gap between us and them.
The Citizens still have a game in hand, which means they could still have a three or six points advantage, depending on how this weekend’s games and their outstanding one pan out.
Meanwhile, Liverpool remain four points behind United, and winning today could stretch it to seven if they’re beaten by city tomorrow.
Ultimately, what matters is that we win because that is the only way to keep our title hopes alive, and we’re sure Olé Gunnar Solskjaer and his boys will go into this weekend’s match, bearing that in mind.
