Manchester United legend Gary Neville has defended Bruno Fernandes amid criticism over his tackle on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka on Saturday.
Former United defender Neville believes Bruno’s will to win has seen him give his all to the club and it’s normal to see him aggressive when he’s been targeted during games.
Speaking on Sky Sports about Saturday’s goalless draw at the Emirates, Gary Neville said: “You can wind Bruno Fernandes up. But that’s what makes him what he is, he’s the energy in the team.
“He’s Manchester United’s best player with the ball and without the ball because the press starts from him as well. He’s got them going, in and out of possession, and he’s got that fire in him as well.”
The Portuguese let his temper flare up in the first half against Arsenal on Sunday after he was elbowed in the face by Arsenal defender Cedric Soares in the Gunners’ box.
The Portuguese was then lucky to escape a red card when he tackled Granit Xhaka, stamping on the back of the Swiss international’s Achilles.
