Chelsea are set to beat Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich to the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig, according to Bild.

The 22 year old centre back is one of the most sought after players in football, following his exploits in the UEFA Champions League last season.

Upamecano has a £38 million release clause in his contract with Leipzig, after renewing last year, and a host of clubs are going over themselves to acquire his services.

Man United and Liverpool were earlier rumoured to be the leaders in the race for the centre back, but Chelsea’s recent appointment of Thomas Tuchel appears to have altered the balance.

The German is a strong admirer of Upamecano, and was heavily linked with him during his stint with Paris Saint-Germain. Tuchel also understands French well, and could help the wanted player settle in well at Stamford Bridge.

But until the summer, it is hard to say where the pendulum will swing, so we just wait and see what happens then, although United are working hard to agree a deal with Leipzig before the summer.
