Retired Premier League referee, Dermot Gallagher has said that Manchester United should have been awarded a penalty, during their encounter with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.
With the hosts ahead, United had a penalty shout ignored by both the central referee and the VAR, after what was considered a clear foul on Fred inside the area by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
United did go on to win the game with goals from Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba, but Gallagher is adamant the foul should have been given.
Speaking on Sky Sports as the incident was reviewed, he said, “I think it’s a penalty.
“I think sometimes people look at the wrong thing. I think the foul occurs before Fred plants his foot.
“I wonder whether they look if they look at where Fred’s foot is planted and Lotus-Cheek doesn’t catch him.
“But I think the foul has already occurred, he’s caught him on the back of the leg before that so it’s a penalty.”
United moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League after the win, having played a game more than Manchester City.
