Manchester United fullback Alex Telles has made a bold statement, ahead of Saturday’s clash with local rivals, Manchester City.
The Brazilian is in line for his first Manchester derby since joining the club in October, and he’s revealed he’s ready to go, being no stranger to games of that nature himself.
Speaking ahead of the game, Telles said it is important to have a winning mentality as we go into the game, that could potentially tell on our league progress so far.
“In Brazil, we say that you don’t play in derbies you win them,” he said.
“So, we’ll definitely go into the game with this mentality.
“It’s certainly an important game and an important milestone in my career. I know how historically important the derby game is. You go into derbies to win.”
Telles added, “As always, it’s important that we respect the opposition. We know that derbies are decided on small details and the best-prepared team will win.
“Thank God, I’ve won most of the derbies I’ve played in, had more victories, which is a positive for me.
“As I said before, my memories of derbies were that all of them were decided by small details. Like all games, concentration and focus are important in derbies, so levels need to be consistent.
“I’m happy to have had this experience of playing in derbies as it helps in future derby games.”
It’s good to know that Telles is hungry to play and win, but let’s hope the rest of the team feels the same way, after that demoralising loss to RB Leipzig in midweek.
