Olé Gunnar Solskjaer has denied claims that Fred didn’t play against West Ham as punishment for his poor performance against Paris Saint-Germain in mid-week.

The Brazilian was sent off after picking up two unnecessary yellow cards against the French champions, leaving us with just 10 men, and an eventual loss.

Solskjaer did suggest he should have taken him off the match, after the first yellow, and that he wasn’t at all happy with the rash decision to commit a second foul.

However, after snubbing the player in Saturday’s match against West Ham, the Norwegian has insisted it was purely for tactical reasons and nothing more.

He told the media, “Fred’s not injured.

“He’s getting ready for the rest of the season because we’ve got a long season.

“Today it was a tactical decision to go with a more physically strong, or with more height. Height is more right than physically strong.”
