Solskjaer reveals the kind of player Manchester United have been missing for a long time

Manchester United boss, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted the team has been lacking a proper number 9 since the exit of Romelu Lukaku in 2019.

Anthony Martial has been deployed to the position since then, and he hasn’t done badly, with an impressive 23 goals across all competitions last season.

But critics of the Frenchman always argued he didn’t have the sharpness required for the position, and that United needed to get a real 9.

However, if Edinson Cavani’s brilliant performance against Southampton is anything to go by, United may have finally gotten one.

The Uruguayan came on as a substitute in the second half, to score a brace and set up another, to hand United a 3-2 win, and the performance has earned him plaudits.

Speaking during his post-match conference, the Norwegian said, “To have a focal point in the box… we’ve not really had that since Romelu left. It gives us a great balance and a mix”.

While Martial has been superb in the central striking position, many believe Cavani is more experienced, and that can play to our advantage as well. But we hope the good form continues for the former Paris Saint-Germain man.
