Manchester United boss, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the late Diego Maradona, as the best player he’s ever seen live.
The Argentine, who passed earlier this week threw the world into mourning, after suffering a heart attack.
And when asked to share his thoughts on the legend during his press conference for the Southampton game, the Norwegian said, “It was a sad day and, for me, Diego Maradona will always be the best player that I’ve seen live.
“I was fortunate enough to see him play for Argentina against Norway in Oslo, they lost 1-0 before the World Cup. I remember a Norwegian lad nutmegging him, which I thought was fantastic!”
“After the game, I was stood outside the ground, waiting to get a glimpse of him and I actually touched his shoulder as he walked past the crowd. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him at Old Trafford.
“A guy with an unbelievable talent on the pitch and a smile when you always saw him. It was a sad day and for me he will be the best who ever played football.”
While many of today’s football lovers would easily point toward Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when asked to name their best ever, Maradona was undoubtedly an inspiration during his time, and the world will never forget him.
