Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed why midfielder Paul Pogba was a surprise omission from the Champions League squad that faced Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The Frenchman missed Saturday’s 1-0 win against West Brom with an ankle strain.
Solskjaer had hoped to have Pogba fit and available, but the Frenchman sustained a fresh injury.
The Norwegian confirmed to MUTV before kick-off that the Frenchman’s ankle injury had become worse.
“His ankle is swollen up,” said Solskjaer.
“He trained trained yesterday but didn’t feel right and this morning it was confirmation he couldn’t play.”
The Frenchman was replaced by Donny van de Beek in the lineup to face the Turkish side.
Solskjaer will be hoping the issue can be resolved in time as we face Southampton on Sunday in the Premier League.
