Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has criticised the decision of centre referee, David Coote, to overturn his initial penalty decision to West Brom on Saturday.
United beat the Baggies 1-0 at home on the night, but Slaven Bilic and his men will believe that things could have been different if the decision hadn’t been overruled.
Bruno Fernandes was believed to have fouled Conor Gallagher, which led to Coote pointing to the spot, but after reviewing the incident on the pitch side monitor— based on advice, he decided to overturn it.
United would go on to get a penalty of their own moments later, which was duly converted by Fernandes, but Ferdinand believes the initial decision from Coote affected the outcome of things.
Speaking on BT Sport, he said, “It’s a disgraceful decision.
“He got it right first time. It’s a nailed-on penalty. How can he go against his own decision on that?
“The game’s been taken from under West Brom’s noses. That was so clear.”
Well, Ferdinand is allowed to have his own opinion, just like anyone else, but we have to all agree that the ref did review the incident and made a decision based on his review.
