Chelsea legend Andy Townsend has urged Manchester City to beat Manchester United to the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo if he eventually leaves Juventus next summer and return to England.
The pundit believes the Portuguse superstar still has a lot to offer in the game and would perfectly suit City’s style of play.
Speaking on talkSPORT radio, former Chelsea man Andy Townsend said: “If Cristiano Ronaldo became available and Manchester City needed goals for their team then I don’t think you should hesitate.
“He’s 35 and I still think he’s got 18 months in him. If he came to Manchester City and the way they play I think he could go there and get 25 in his first season. If you want goals then I think he’s still the ultimate goal machine.
“Ronaldo still has the desire and want to be remembered as the greatest. He will in some people’s eyes but he won’t in others. He’s still got a desire to score goals. More than anything on the field now, he just wants to score goals.”
Meanwhile, the former United winger has already been linked with a return to Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen if the club will eventually bring him back.
