Former Manchester United fitness and conditioning coach, Mick Clegg, has revealed that Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo was the only player to beat Ryan Giggs in terms of athleticism during their Man United days.
Clegg worked during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at United, and had the privilege of coaching the two legends.
And according to him, prior the arrival of Ronaldo, Giggs was the most fit player at Old Trafford.
He also said that the Welshman’s fitness level was what made it possible for him to play until he turned 40, and predicted Ronaldo would surpass it.
He told Gazzetta dello Sport, “Before Ronaldo, the best athlete in terms of work on his body was Ryan Giggs.
“He was the strongest, the most attentive to details. If Giggs played at United until he was 40, Ronaldo can play till he is 41.
“Cristiano was the only one able to go beyond the high standards of Giggs.”
Ronaldo notoriously has a strong fitness routine, which is the reason he has excelled so much in the sport.
The Portuguese himself, has revealed in the past he wants to play until he turns 40, but it will be interesting to see if he can do an additional year after that.
