Bruno Fernandes is a name that many Manchester United fans have come to love and adore, due to his incredible ability with the ball.
The midfielder cost United a hefty sum in January 2019, when he joined from Sporting Lisbon, and has already made more impact than many do in their entire career.
But it appears the Portuguese could as well have been a star in a different position if he needed the advice of his former coach, who told him to pay more attention to the defensive side of football.
According to Fernandes, who spoke during a recent interview on the UTD Podcast, his then coach told him he’d excel more as a centre back.
In his words, “I was really good [at centre-back], I had a coach who said to me, ‘If you want to be a top player, you will need to play as a central defender. If you want to be a good player, you will be a midfielder”.
It’s hard to tell whether the coach’s prediction would have come to pass, seeing as the midfielder has thrived excellently in that role, but what we do know is that the man has immense talent and passion for what he does, and an admirable ability to adapt to new conditions, as demonstrated after his move to Old Trafford.
