Jack Grealish was one of the names that were associated with Manchester United the most during the summer transfer window, although the move never saw the light of day.
The Englishman was influential to Aston Villa staying up in the premier league last season, after some impressive showings from him, which sparked talk of a possible move to Old Trafford.
Many expected the move to materialize at some point— including United players, who couldn’t help ask the 25 year old when he would join them during the pre-season friendly match between them before the new football season.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who recently spoke on Tifo podcast’s Ask Ornstein show, although some United players wanted the move, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t speak to the player, and that pretty much confirmed it wasn’t going to happen.
Ornstein said, “Interestingly there was a friendly between Villa and United ahead of the new season starting.
“I think in a humorous way a number of the United players were saying to Grealish, ‘When are you joining us?’
“But there was nothing from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer towards him.
“I think by that point it was pretty clear to Grealish that it wasn’t going to happen.”
Grealish has since extended his stay at Villa Park by another five years, although recent reports say United may soon rekindle their interest in the midfielder.
