It appears Manchester United will regret allowing former academy player Angel Gomes leave the club last summer as he is now considered to be one of the best players in the Portuguese League.
The England U-20 forward refused to sign a new contract at Old Trafford as result of limited playing time and left as a free agent. The 20-year-old was strongly linked with Chelsea at some point, but a deal never materialised.
However, the player joined French side Lille on a free transfer and was later loaned out to Portuguese side Boavista for the rest of the season.
Gomes has been one of Liga NOS’ outstanding players this season, with three goals and two assists in just five appearances, and he has been a handful for defenders.
He has been phenomenal for the Portuguese side and has been described as a player with magic in his feet.
“Angel represents one of the biggest international prospects in his position,” Lille CEO Marc Ingla has said, and he has also been hailed as a player with magic feet.
“This boy has magic in his feet,” Portugal legend and 1987 European Cup-winning winger Paulo Futre told Record.
After failing to sign longterm target Jadon Sancho, the club missed an opportunity to save millions as he would have solved some of our problem at wing position.
Hopefully, we don’t get to rue our mistake for letting this talented player leave the club.
