According to reports, Manchester United are set to battle with rivals Arsenal for the signature of Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
The 23-year-old central midfielder has been impressive for Antonio Conte’s side, and has attracted interests from both clubs.
He joined Inter on loan in July 2019 from Cagliari and made his move permanent for £22.5million over the summer.
He still has four years left on his contract, but the Nerazurri are already preparing an extension to his contract to avoid losing him to Europe elite clubs.
He will be offered an increase from his £2.2m-a-year salary to £3.5m-a-year to ward off potential suitors.
The Gunners are said to view him as an alternative to Lyon’s Houssem Aouar who they couldn’t sign in the summer, while the Red devils also view him as Paul Pogba’s replacement if the Frenchman eventually leaves the club.
It is also believed that Spanish giants Barcelona and Atletico are also interested in the player who has been capped 16 times by Italy.
However it could take a huge offer to lure Barella away from Inter, as he rejected a whole lot of Serie A rivals to join the Nerazzurri in order to fulfill a childhood dream.
