Liverpool legend gives advice to Manchester United concerning Solskjaer’s future

Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged Manchester United to back manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid reports the club have made contact with former Spurs Boss Mauricio Pochettino as a potential replacement.

Former Liverpool winger believes the Norwegian has so far done a good job ,during his time at Old Trafford and deserves the chance to turn things around.

But he also warned the Solskjaer needs to make the United team more consistent.

“What Manchester United have to do is back their manager,” Barnes told when asked if Pochettino should replace Solskjaer.

“They will know when Solskjaer can’t take them where they want to go.

“They have to back the manager and try to get the players to get behind him, or they’ll have to look at the situation.

“Solskjaer has shown that he is a fantastic manager with wins against PSG and other top teams, but United must start showing signs of consistency.”

“The difference between when Liverpool turned things around and now is that the financial implications of football at the highest level are different,” Barnes added.

“Any club can spend a lot of money to challenge at the highest level, so once upon a time you had to work more organically to get back to the top rather than just spending money – and with Manchester United, they can spend hundreds of millions to get the best players.

“It will be difficult for United in the next two or three years. They will be competitive, not winning the league, but with what they’re doing now it is hard to say what the future looks like.”
