Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus is pessimistic over the possibility of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland signing for Manchester United.
Report from The Athletic claim United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the Norwegian striker at the top of his transfer wishlist – even though negotiations with his agent Mino Raiola ended last year.
Haaland is already among the best strikers in Europe, and Matthaus expects the 20-year-old to leave Dortmund soon, but not to Old Trafford.
Speaking to Sky90 about Erling Haaland’s future, Bayern Munich hero Lothar Matthaus said: “Borussia Dortmund are one of the 10 best teams in Europe but there are 5 or 6 that have better teams and that’s where he will go at some point.
“I am thinking about the great clubs, not necessarily Bayern, because Robert Lewandowski will probably play for two or three more years and Halaland probably won’t stay at Dortmund so long.
“But there’s Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City or Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp, who’s looking for a successor to Roberto Firmino.”
